Kinda cool that the newest New Flyers are in the 7000s just as the AM Generals (which were also New Flyer based) were in that series as well. Let's hope the newest batch holds up much better than the AMGs! Although, I miss the old tweed seats and rattly, loud engines!
I agree. It is cool to see old fleet numbers used again. I thought about it plenty of times with NYCs fleet. With me being a mid-fortysomething and the size of New York City's fleet, I've seen nearly all of their numbers from #1 to 99XX used twice (some 3 times). The downside is that it means we're getting old:-).
LOL, yeah and with the sheer volume of vehicles NYC uses, it's probably pretty easy to do that. It does make me feel old though when I can remember the original use of a fleet number.....
Very true. Let me tell you what really reminds me that I'm getting old. Nearly all NYCTA's New Technology Trains (built from 1999-2010) which is just over 3500 subway cars, have recycled fleet numbers that I can remember their last use. Kinda funny seeing as our subway cars are seeing 40 years of service.
That is pretty neat though that you could remember the original use of those numbers and now see the new incarnation of them. Even though I don't live in the DC area anymore, it's strange thinking of the 1000s getting retired and moving on to a new generation of subway cars. It probably won't be very long until WMATA has a new set of 1000's once they need to start getting rid of some of the other series over the next decade.

SEPTA is re-using 2000's [formerly PCC Trolleys, now Champion Cutaways 2071-98], 3000's [originally old-look GM's then the now retired Neoplan DK-EI buses 3000-3249. 3250 and up were never used on the old-looks.], the 5000's (originally GM TDH5303 and 5303A [5000-5049 were the '63 5303s with no AC, 5050-99 were the '67 5303's with AC]) now the retiring NABI fleet, and the 8000's [originally the 1980 GM RTS and the 1982/83 Neoplan AN440 ].
