That is the ongoing mentality in alot of places that transit = crime. I think somehow it has to involve some racial aspect of the views of public transit being the primary mode for low-income residents who do not have access to a private vehicle and what people view in the media. This specious statement about the impacts of incorporating transit in transit-depraved areas has certainly undermined the ability to fully be able to be in transit around the country. Gas prices are sky high and in most places, people are looking for alternatives to their costly commutes. Carroll County as well as other places in the state have been overlooking the opportunities of providing that alternative to commuters who want to save money and have a little piece of mind in their commutes than having to battle with traffic on the Beltway and other arterials heading into Baltimore. Once people reevaluate the false views of transit bringing crime and unwanted people into their quaint suburbia and see it as an alternative form of transportation, only then will we be able to fully be able to be a nation in transit.
