Thanks for the enlightening news!  I presume NYCTA does not have a "buy USA" requirement since it appears these buses will be manufactured in Canada.

Yes, NYCTA is actually buying several "test/evaluation" groups of buses.  Each order is for 90 buses. 

The first group was to be the DesignLine buses, but that order was cancelled after endless problems with the 4 buses the TA was operating.

Last Spring 90 NovaBUS LFS-A (Articulated) buses were delivered.  They are assigned to 2 (126th St and Gun Hill) depots.  They are used on 2 BRT (Select Bus Service) routes, Bx12SBS and M15SBS.

This past Friday 4/1/11 the first of 90 NovaBUS LFS (40 footers) went into service.

Oerders to come between this Summer and early 2012

90 Prevost X3-45
90 New Flyer XD40
90 Orion VII

I can't wait as it will make NYCTA's fleet quite diverse. 

There's also a NFI C40LF order.  This group will be split between NYCTA and MTAB depots.
