Wow, I wonder what's keeping the traffic so high in Mont Co., especially with the transit and roadway network out there. Where are all of these people going? Would the Purple Line and Corridor Cities Transitway even solve the problem?

I'd be willing to wager that where those people are going to (and/or coming from) are areas out of Montgomery County, DC probably excepted, where transit isn't a viable option (Fairfax County and the Frederick area largely, the Columbia and Baltimore areas less so). On a local level (especially inside the Beltway), many people have a mindset in which Metro is superior to driving, but driving is superior to the bus; this isn't all that uncommon with people who are transplants to the area and are already tethered to their cars.
I think the Purple Line, a CCT built beyond Germantown to Frederick (or at least a point where TransIT will meet it unlike when they didn't meet the 75 in Urbana), a revival of the 14's to Tysons, and perhaps some infrastructure improvements can help the problem. The southern part of MoCo really could use a couple more east-west roads but Rock Creek Park gets in the way. Anyone who's ridden the 5 in rush hours knows how backed up can get because there's nothing long distance east-west between MD 587 and the Beltway.
