It's official. Bought our Megabus tix last night (18.50, not bad for two people round trip, considering GLI for just me was 97.00 last year). Anyone available for the Roadeo or any busfanning in general? We will be arriving Thursday night (3/31) and leaving Sunday evening (4/3). If anyone has info on where to catch the best stuff I haven't rode yet (i.e. LFRs, Xcelsiors, etc.) please let me know- I could care less about the LFAs. And if there are any random Flx sightings area-wide (which seems doubtful), I'd like to know where those are happening too. I would also like to catch a FFX RTS if I make it out that way at all. See everyone soon!
Fred,
You probably should send out a reminder as the date gets closer. I may catch the roadeo and perhaps a bit of fanning too.
Wow, where will the Roadeo be this year? Will it be at DASH HQ again this year?
Just a reminder that the VA State Roadeo will be held Sunday, April 3, at the PRTC facility in Woodbridge. I'll be in the area from that Thursday evening until the day of the event. If anyone wants to do some busfanning, hit me up. See everybody soon!
actually it will be held at Gar-Field Senior High School
I have some hidden codes still on the PRTC buses from when we had the State Roadeo there a few years ago. One is Roadeo shuttle and others have the names of the participants. I can't remember the code numbers I used though. I have some other hidden destination signs too.
That was a lot of fun working the event. Say hi to everyone there for me!

Are you sure about this? I'd better call Monique Weiss at PRTC to make sure.....very important info to know there! :o

Perry, do you (or anyone else here) have any good straight-on side or rear shots of PRTC buses? I'm building a couple Eagle models in their colors and need them for reference. Thanks!

Fred - I rarely shoot bus/trains pics straight on, but here's some of the PRTC Eagles I have.

Fred, her name is actually Monique Wyche. She's been an operator there forever!! She has super long finger nails. I don't know how she drives the bus with those, but she's really good! A lot of people from when I was there are still there. Good to see longevity.

prtc fanning?
On a Saturday you won't be able to do too much!
Perry - You beat me to it. Nothing against PRTC, but I had no intention of trying to 'fan down there on a Saturday. In fact, I don't want to busfan at all in NoVA on the weekend.
thiers no 40 footers or mcis on saturday only 29ft gilligs that run every 1 hour and 25 mins

Perry, thanks for the correction. Wasn't planning on fanning w/PRTC specifically- I'm sure I'll get plenty of exposure to their fleet as they are hosting the Roadeo. I was thinking more of WMATA, DASH, and the usual suspects. My busfanning activity will be limited this time as Beth is not so much a busfan and is also prone to motion sickness on large vehicles. :( Besides, my all-time faves are off the street anyway. I would like to check out the 2800-series C40LFRs though....

Thanks for these, DCATF. They will be very helpful. I hope to have two models of PRTC Eagle no. 115 ready by the end of this week. One will be in HO scale, and the other will be an all-metal 1:64 scale unit.
Wayne, thanks again for thinking of me on the actual Eagle shots- I already have these in a link you sent me a year ago. :) Great pics though- and they will be especially helpful for my reference!

Agreed! Nicole has been a real trooper in regards to me getting my transit fix. It's cool how when we're on travel, she's quite open to using mass transit to get around. That said, I always make a conscious effort to not have transit interfere too much with our plans. When we're walking around, I simply have my camera in-hand and ready to get any photo op that comes our way. I think the 79 is easily your best bet for getting a C40LFR (2800 series) ride. They can be found on any Bladensburg route, but since the 2800s are a small group, it can be tricky to find one. Just be mindful that the 79 is weekday only. It's a nice enough ride, especially during the mid-day.
I just spoken to the gm of prtc he says thier might be GRTC buses and that it will start at 9Am
Thanks. I really need to call Monique now...gotta get all the details just right!
It was nice meeting you guys u thier!
Yea it was cool to meet fellow DCATZ members at the Roadeo today. Did you guys get your tour of the PRTC garage?
yep it was pretty good and we also got to TURN ON a MCI D4500Ct and a 2010 Gillig we rev up those buses to lol

It was great to see everyone yesterday. Thanks for coming out, everyone! Unfortunately, no tour for me as Chris, Nicole, and I had to leave (Beth was waiting for us in Springfield...she was under the weather yesterday). We went to Old Town for eats, then us Donahers parted ways at King St. and went on up to Dupont Circle for some Thai Chef tastiness and a nice walk around the area before catching the Red Line back toward Megabus land. We had a great trip, and look forward to coming back up in the Fall.
