Title: Ride On to offer "Web-based real-time bus arrival information."
Post by: WMAveteran on January 18, 2011, 01:16:14 AM
The January 12, 2011 edition of THE GAZETTE newspaper reported that "By the summer, the county's (Montgomery County MD) Ride On bus services will offer Web-based real-time bus arrival information that can be accessed via the county's website."  "Shortly after that, riders should be able to access that information on their smart phones or mobile devices."  "Within a year . . . riders will be able to e-mail or text Ride On officials to ask when their bus will arrive."
"Ride On also will offer an interactive voice response system that would allow riders to call a phone number and enter the bus stop information by voice or using the keypad to get bus arrival information."  "More details on how to access the services wil be publicized when the county is ready to launch the program."

I've seen the system that they are getting and I'm not at all impressed with it. I've heard that the system was slated to be up for Rochester but it has bugs. Samtrans and VTA are supposed to get it. Brampton Transit has it as well.

ACS Smarttraveler Plus. Brampton Transit has the same suite (which is the only one live). Link to theirs:

This is quite cool!  I can't wait to see how this works out.

Does anyone know whatever became of this? I have not seen any place to find real-time arrival notifications for Ride On, but I have noticed that some stops have a 5-digit ID number now.

They are doing "beta testing" on this right now. Should be coming along soon.
