Metro announced before the inauguration in 2009 that it would consider setting up such an operation, but this is the first time they are actually doing so.
Why do we need bag searches? It's only further proof that the terrorists won.
What even happened to our civil liberties? People should just say no and fight for their rights. I hope this falls apart and WMATA relents.
Interesting. At least this a minor inconvenience as they use technology and our K9 friends instead of just rummaging through people's belongings.
Reactive approaches instead of proactive. Hence, why security measures always seem to be for show. Plus, it's bad enough our commutes are rough as it is. Whats next, full body scanners at the faregates?

Has anyone actually seen a bag screener in action yet? I have no reason to believe this isn't another case of Metro crying wolf.
The Washington Post is reporting that inspections took place this morning at Braddock Road and College Park. See more at http://voices.washingtonpost.com/dr-gridlock/2010/12/metro_begins_random_bag_inspec.html.
Maybe we can create a permanent bag search thread on the main DC Transit Today board to keep track of these things? Are we interested in reporting when/where they occur?

I did see all the new reporters and MTP at College Park this morning I got off the train.

That actually might not be a bad idea... one can find out on the Twitter where they occur, too...
I'm just waiting for the day when someone fed up really takes matters into their own hands. Seems to be the case lately with people pissed off at government. I read in Express that the bag searches at Braddock Rd and College Park have stopped (like I said all for press).
