Title: Guess the Location
Post by: WMATAGMOAGH on August 03, 2010, 12:04:40 PM
This photo was posted on the WMATA site in a press release about fare  changes that took effect today. I thought it would make a good Guess the Location thread once I posted it in response to a post by Brandon in another thread.  Can you figure out where it was taken?  The station name will suffice for a correct answer, I'll post the  answer Wednesday after 6 PM if no one gets it by then.

Good luck!

Hmm. The only hint is that the station is a 34 minute ride from Largo. So it has to be one of the downtown stations.

I want to say Gallery Place - Chinatown.

A quick search of the online fare table for Largo narrows it down to three stations: Gallery Place, Navy Yard, and New Carrollton. Given the distance from Metro HQ, my money's on Gallery Place.

Scratch New Carrollton. The second station under Largo is McPherson and this station is a 7 minute ride from it.

Gallery Place it is. McPherson-Navy Yard is 16 minutes.

My instincts tell me it's Metro Center, I can't say for sure though.

There's no way McPherson-Metro Center is a 7-minute ride. It doesn't even take 7 minutes to walk from Metro Center to McPherson for many.

ANSWER:  It would appear to be Gallery Place, for all the reasons Ken and Jason stated:

1.  Several stations are 34 minutes from Largo Town Center,
2.  Out of those 3 stations, Gallery Place is the one that is 7 minutes from McPherson Square, which is the next station alphabetically on the tables.
3.  In light of the fact the photo was taken for a press release, it is pretty easy for someone in the PR department to go down the elevator, walk to the station, take a photo, and go back to HQ to finish the release
