After the incident when the station manager at Cheverly closed too early, this is only the latest fuel for the anti-Metro fires to burn and (of course) the major WMATA-critical blogs and Twitter feeds are on this like crazy.
The one time I rode the (second to-)last train of the night, the last bit of service were full of system-wide announcements done live telling station managers when the last train of the night was arriving, complete with the six-note "live announcement" chimes. Again, closing early is inexcusable and should be grounds for dismissal.
Agreed - closing before the last revenue train has left the station is beyond unacceptable, especially in a station with only one entrance.
Also, having never been on Metro for last-train announcements, what are the six-note "live announcement" chimes? I presume this is different from the ding.wav chime that they use for the usual announcements?

You would dismiss on a first offense? I'm sure you do your job perfectly and without flaws day in and day out, too...
Well punching out McGruff the Crime Dog as a first offense isn't enough to get you fired, so I doubt this will either but ti is deserved.

That's because ATU 689 is above the law and common decency. Usually when people slug an off-duty cop, they see a jail cell.
Remember, they forced WMATA to take someone who committed vehicular manslaughter (read: MURDER) back on the job. Some people feel that should be a capital offense, but in ATU 689-land it's like missing a red light.

If they were a probationary employee, ATU 689 could fire them for looking at a supervisor the wrong way.
