Thanks for the pictures of the new kids on the block. How many different destinations does Bx12 serve? Looking at your photographs it seems to go everywhere!
Yes, the Bx12 does seem to do a lot in terms of it's destinations, but it's really just that the local is truncated (on both east and west end) during the Bx12 SBS (limited Stop) operation.
The Bx12 is a 24/7 route.
During SBS operation (weekdays approx 5 AM to 11 PM, weekends approx 7 AM-10 PM):
The route starts at Bay Plaza Shopping Center in the Bronx and travels west via Pelham Pkwy, Fordham Rd and 207th Street to 207th Street-Broadway. This is what the Bx12 SBS buses does.
During these hours the Bx12 local starts at Pelham Bay Park and travels west via Pelham Pkway and Fordham Rd and terminate at Sedgwick Ave-Fordham Road.
Late nights all Bx12 buses make all stops and operate the full route (Bay Plaza to 207th-Bway).
Another twist: In the Summer (Memorial Day to Labor Day) the Bx12 buses that terminate at Pelham Bay Park are extended to Orchard Beach.
In the old days some Bx12 buses also served City Island (24 hrs/7 days). This service is now handled by another route (Bx29)
The new NovaBUS LFS-A buses are aewsome. They're also currently testing a 40-footer LFS. So far it's done 30-day test at one MTAB (JFK) and one NYCTA (Ulmer Park) depot. It's now at NYCTA's 126th St depot. I'm sure they'll like it and a order will follow shortly thereafter. After years of boredom, I'm happy about the direction of NYCTA's bus fleet.
