Title: INTERNATIONAL PHOTO CHALLENGE: VOTING NOW OPEN
Post by: Tristan on April 07, 2010, 09:02:39 AM
These are the official rules for the INTERNATIONAL Springtime Photo Challenge.  The DC challenge is at http://forums.dctransit.info/index.php?topic=1389.

Note: International doesn't mean ONLY foreign countries, just not the DC area.

We're looking to get all you cabin fevered cave dwellers out of your winter hibernation (Hi Pot, I'm Kettle!) and on the streets taking pictures.  Think you've got what it takes?  Go forth and start taking those shots, then post your three best here in this thread on April 30 or May 1 ONLY (you wouldn't want to post your best now and then have someone take your idea and upstage you, right?).  Judging will run on May 1 and May 2 and the winner will be determined by poll on May 3.

Entry Rules
-Must be taken between March 20 and April 30
-Should include either a monument, foliage, or water -- or perhaps other "springlike" environmental elements, subject to interpretation
-Cannot be taken in Metrorail stations, transit centers, or other areas -- it's a photo challenge, not just a contest :-)
-Maximum of three photos per entry (post); one entry per person per category (DC/non-DC).

Voting Rules
-Don't vote for your own photos.  It's nice to win, but give props if they're due.
-Voters can pick up to THREE photos.  Winner will be declared by simple majority.

PRIZE TO BE ANNOUNCED (but certainly not as big as the DC prize).

Wow Adam. Now that's a beaut. I was gonna get a pic of 9003 yesterday on the 64 but it didn't make a stop and the 64 I was on had passed it. This would be great for some media for MTA.

Thanks! It was a tricky one as I couldn't see the bus coming from this vantage point, but rather had to go up past the curve to keep a strained eye out for it.  The reward was that it was an LFR, whose colorful sides have been really hard to spotlight, particularly with longer zoom shots!

I'll admit I got a little lucky with the timing. It was taken with my 2001 vintage camera which lacks a true burst mode, so this one shot was all I was going to get, and I had just enough composure not to fire it off too soon or too late.

Awesome picture, AP. I wish my camera can produce colors like that...

Submitting a bit early due to upcoming travel this weekend that would make me miss the deadline if I waited to get back before posting.  Here are my entries:

Chris,

If you are still having uploading issues and want to do this (and if the powers that be allow this), email me your submissions and I can put them up on my server.

Considering the issues members have had (which I'll have to look into), I have no problem extending the deadline to June 1 like we did with the DC contest...if the members who have already submitted have no objection.

Note, you can also use any image hosting service (Imageshack, Photobucket, Picasa, et al) to post your entries and then link to them here with the [image] tags the service gives you.

No objection here...I'm making adjustments to my submission so that it won't throw off the thread again.

If it got the scalps of some of y'all, I apologize.

EDIT: Finally got it together, and posted my remaining entries. Enjoy!

Just a few trolley pictures I nabbed yesterday:

A "community scene". :)

Check out the car behind it!

I just like the layout of this picture.
