Title: Vintage Photos of DC-area transit
Post by: Scrabbleship on March 05, 2010, 04:01:42 PM
I had seen this mentioned on Silver Spring Singular, but a user on Flickr put up a treasure trove of old pictures (http://www.flickr.com/photos/davidwilson1949/sets/72157614313958694/), some of which we think we'd never see or knew existed.

I'm not going to spoil anything because I'm still floored from some of the pictures this guy took. I'll leave it to you guys to be amazed  ;) .

The GRUMMAN bus on 2nd avenue blew me away

Thats where I got my current default pic.
Shame he doesnt have any more CLASSIC PIX, or PIX from the old DC transit terminal, that used to surround the SS Armory (Wayne, Pershing & Fenton)

Those were awesome pictures, nice find.  Thanks for posting the link rather than posting random photos and not telling us where you got them.

You'd know I'd never be that boastful :). I did nearly post text spoilers of what was inside but that album kept impressing me.

Now I'm curious of when the now-Brunswick Line at Forest Glen Rd. and the now-Camden Line stop in Hyattsville were discontinued. And did those Ride On Grumman minibuses have Flxette windows from the looks of it?

Superb and rare photographs.  I loved and rode the RDC's.  I didn't like the Ride-On Grummans but I rode them when the service first started - they were so tightly sprung that riding over cigarette butts would make your head hit the ceiling. The photograph of the Washington Terminal MP-54 is very rare (there was only one).

Fantastic find and wonderful photos!  It's interesting to see the difference in the interior of the Rohrs today from yesterday.

I guess they added equipment above the windows, giving a different look?
