Title: GRTC receives new Gillig Low Floors
Post by: MetroLinerXLZ on January 18, 2010, 06:37:17 PM
It has been brought to my attention (not too long ago) that the GRTC has received it's newest order of Gillig Low Floors.

These are in fact, the first order of Gillig LF's that have the new BRT styling (sans the roof flare panels). They are numbered in the 900s (intentionally), as these buses are replacing/retiring the old 900s (1996 Gillig Phantoms #901-921). I'm assuming (given GRTC's trend on purchases) that these buses will sport the Cummins ISL engine/Voith D864.3 ADR transmission powertrain package with the SCR (Selective Catalytic Reduction) technology.

The buses are currently being prep'd for revenue service, so they have not hit the streets of Richmond yet. However, another local transit fan (GRTCrid3r on YouTube) has posted a background picture of the new #905.

This recent order has however caused some rift with the drivers, as many of them are part of the ATU union and have still been working w/o a contract for quite some time. RUMORS have been flying in the air that a strike is imminent.

I'll keep my eyes peeled. As soon as these new buses hit the streets, best believe that I'll pictures/recordings/videos of them.
