I remember reading something that had stated WMATA had Neoplans AN440HF's numbered in the 9500s I saw a pic of an old Flxible at the Annex Division with what looked like a Neoplan behind it on ttmg.org. Does anybody know the Engines and Transmissions for these buses.

I cant find a good photo of them but i cropped one.

I have pictures of them but need to scan them. I use to go down to Southeast DC just to ride these and the 5000 series Gilligs since that was where they lived.

Aw, that was when Southeast used to be cool in terms of buses.  I wish I had been old enough (and knowledgeable enough) to go after those Neoplans and Gilligs...

If I'm not mistaken, I believe the AN440s had the typical 6v92TA/Allison HT-74-something powertrain, no?
My favorite buses:
1989 SEPTA AN440: 19 years in service
1989 NJT Metro Bs: 21 years in service
1990 WMATA 93/9400 Flxes: 20 years in service!
1990-92 Ride-On Orion Is: 17-18 years in service!

Tell me again I have no taste in buses...

I live in Southeast now its now composed of D40LFRs and Orion V's. But I kinda figured they had that powertrain. and yes I grew up on the phantoms I think they left like in 2001 or 2002.

It's funny, I never knew the Phantoms existed until I saw a photo of one in that old book about Metro.  I only saw one in person one night while I was being driven around in that area.

I remember riding those 9500's back in '83 and '84 because they reminded me of the similar SEPTA buses back in the day [especially the Neo BD 8435-8584].  Both batches of buses had the same 6v92TA/Allison HT74 combo.

They retired presumably in 2001.
