Since last posting on this site back in early 2015, WMATA has seen some major changes overall to it's bus and rail fleet. Starting with the buses, these are the fleets that met their end between 2015 and 2023 (some started going in 2014):
-1997 Orion 5.501s #4200-4412 (last units retired in 2016).
-2000 Orion 5.501s #2100-2231 (last units retired from revenue service in 2019 and employee shuttles in 2020).
-2001-2002 New Flyer C40LF CNGs #2300-2399, #2401-2464 (retired in late 2016).
-2002 Neoplan AN460s #5301-5321 (retired late 2015-early 2016).
-2005 New Flyer DE40LF Hybrids #6001-6039 (retired suddenly in early 2021, similar to how the 2000 Orion 6.501s did 9 years prior).
-2005 Orion 7.501 OG CNGs #2501-2615 (last units retired in 2019).
-2006 New Flyer DE40LFR Hybrids #6040-6050 (retired in early 2021).
-2006 Orion 7.501 OG CNGs #2616-2685, #2701-2730 (last units retired by late 2020).
-2007 Orion 7.503 OG CNGs #3001-3035 (last units retired in mid-2021, however, #3032-35 are still being used as training buses as of 1/2023).
In addition, half of the 2006 New Flyer D40LFRs (#6101-6217) and many 2008-2009 New Flyer DE42LFAs (#6301-6461) have since been retired. Since then, nearly 800 new Xcelsior buses have entered service as well, all of various types.
