DC Transit Today / Re: June 2012 Service Changes

And also the R2 serving 23rd avenue thru Lewisdale, as well as by-passing PG Plaza.
Talk about a super tight right hand turn off of University Blvd, onto 23rd avenue.

Another thing I noticed. . its yet another change for the F6 route. How many times has WMATA tweaked its routing, since the F6's inception in the mid 70's?

Day-to-Day Sightings / Re: Buses that can move!!
March 02, 2012, 05:34:52 PM
I once had Ride-On #5140 deadheading from Montgomery Mall, from Old Georgetown Rd, I-270 up to 70MPH.

I even passed a 5300 series Gillig  before I made 495, enroute to the Brookville Depot.
(he was deadheading from The Kemper Open). It was a Saturday just after 415pm.
By the time I parked #5140, said goodnite & walked up the hill, that bus was only arriving to Brookville.
5140 & 5142 neither bus had a working governer, and the A/C was so cold, you needed a sweater.
I LOVED that TMC, even with the oversized steering wheel & the drivers seat, that was rock hard.

Sometimes, dem old girls put out da speed!

The original route from Silver Spring to Takoma, actually ran to Federal Triangle.

It was marked as a J6, started from Fenton Street (Between Pershing & Wayne) operated down Wayne Ave, doing the exact route as Ride-On's current Route12. However, when it got to the where the current #12 makes a right, heading towards Takoma Station & the 7-11, the J6 continued straight. Making a stop next to the 7th Day Adventist HQ, then make a right under the B&O RR bridge.

Comming back from Federal Triangle, The J6 passed under the RR bridge (as did the 14th street 50 series buses) parallelled the RR tracks, made the right on Carol St (?) to the traffic light, made the left on Carol Avenue, and continued on its way to Silver Spring.

I even remember the old Juvenile Sales Toy Store that sat on the corner of Eastern Ave & Carol. .  when I left DC region, it was a vacant lot, like 3 stores from the corner.

Back when Ride-On first took over the L8, T2, & Z2, all we had were the 30' Orions, Gilligs & TMC's

Also of note, was the 7500 & 7600 series were all 35'ers

The GRUMMAN bus on 2nd avenue blew me away

Thats where I got my current default pic.
Shame he doesnt have any more CLASSIC PIX, or PIX from the old DC transit terminal, that used to surround the SS Armory (Wayne, Pershing & Fenton)

That wasnt in the 66, or 6800 block of 23rd avenue, was it?
The brick houses, so close together give it away, as to the location.

if it is on 23rd   66, or 6800 block, I know who it is  :)

DC Transit Today / Re: Favorite Buses

Its not a METRObus, but. . .

Once, when I was deadheading from Montgomery Mall, I was directly behind a brand new 5300 series Gillig Phantom, as we both got on 270 @ Old Georgetown Rd on a Saturday afternoon.

I was driving a TMC

The TMC I was driving, didn't have a governor, and I had it wide open.
By the time I hit 270 & the inner loop, that Gillig Phantom was well in my rear view mirrors.

I had that bus parked, and had walked up the hill, to the drivers parking lot, when that bus finally arrived at Brookville. That driver could only smile. He later told me, he was struggling to get that Gillig to maintain 50MPH.

I made it a point, to ask for that particular TMC if ever I saw it unassigned on the board.
It also had an A/C so cold, you needed a sweater.

This bus looked like a dog on the outside.
Inside, it ran like a hungry greyhound chasing after a squirrel.

Maybe the metro transit Cops will give the raccoons a ticket for eating in the station??

Once the raccoons lose the fear of being close to humans, then they will think human ankles are a food source & start to attack humans.

Another thing, Raccoons are night/nocturnal creatures. if they are out in the daytime, its a good chance they are already rabid & should be feared.

I wonder how soon, a raccoon will make it to a train going downtown??
