Where's the Beef??
« on: July 10, 2010, 10:03:33 AM »
Guys,

For over a year now, I have been promising a much-needed update to this site that would allow us to really start pouring content out and putting this site on track towards the vision we have for it.  I have a binder here at the house with a "Site Development Strategy", with tabbed dividers and a cover and the whole 9 yards.  I have about 5 beta platforms I tinkered with.  There's a lot of work that has been done, but......

There's one big problem I haven't been able to solve, and that had really sapped my energy to put any work into the project.  I'm by no means saying that my attitude towards this is "right", "fair", "good", or anything else positive because it plagues many things I want to do -- if I can't get it done exactly the way I want it, I don't have the energy to put anything into it.  Apple does this with their products; the iPhone 3G does not get wallpapers from the iOS 4 update because Steve Jobs didn't like the impact animated wallpapers had on the phone's performance.   Bummer for me.

Anyway, what I'm trying to do is come up with a "contingency" or a workaround to create, mimic, or at least approximate the functionality that I lost in being unable to pull off my original plan.  If you are really interested in what's going on, hit me up on IM or whatever and I'll explain -- no need to waste time and space here on the deep technical details.

Sometimes I ask myself "why bother?"  If it's holding up everything else and stunting the development of the site, what's really the point???  But I guess the issue is that it's a core functionality I had planned so much around, only to find out that it would be much harder than I initially thought.  And, it would be a waste to do everything without it, then figure it out and have to move everything over.

So...I'm waiting till I have some time and meet some new people who are good with programming (SchuminWeb, you out there??).  What I want is actually a simple concept, and I don't think it would be a lot of work for someone who knows what they're doing.  I might even get to the point of dropping some cash and paying someone to take care of it, just to get things moving.

Just thought you might be interested to know that ... the machine still works, it's just not on right now :-)

Happy travels
